The Xavier Aptitude Test – XAT Syllabus 2022 is divided into four sections: Verbal Ability and Reading
Comprehension, Decision Making, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness. With the exception of
General Awareness, the other three components are key sections that determine the XAT percentile
score as well as XLRI shortlisting criterion. When it comes to the personal interview round, the score
from the General Awareness component is taken into account.
Most Important Sections in XAT 2022 Syllabus
The key sections of the XAT syllabus 2022 are Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension & Logical
Reasoning; Decision Making; Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation, which will determine your
percentile and merit place. The other section on General Knowledge (GK) has no predefined XAT
syllabus 2022 and is not counted for percentile calculation. The XAT syllabus covers all of the important
themes on all of the above-mentioned test sections.
Section-1: Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension & Logical Reasoning
Section Highlights: The Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, and Logical Reasoning section of the
XAT 2022 syllabus is divided into three parts. The first part of the XAT 2022 test syllabus covers
questions on Verbal Ability; the second part of the XAT 2022 exam curriculum covers Reading
Comprehension passages; and the third part on VARC & LR section is focused on questions on various
topics on Logical Reasoning.
Number of Questions: According to the revised pattern in the XAT exam curriculum for the VARC & LR
segment, there are 26 MCQs in this section
Part-1: Verbal Ability
English Vocabulary based questions – fill in the blanks with correct words; synonyms/antonyms;
contextual usage on vocabulary words
Jumbled Paragraphs
Correction of errors in sentences, correct use of words
Completion of sentences
Completion of paragraph
Part-2: Reading Comprehension (RC)
● Share of Reading Comprehension in VARC & LR section is very high
● Topics on which RC passages are based: Abstract topics, Literature, Social and Economic issues;
Science & Culture; history & fiction among others.
● There is no clear cut definition of RC topics in XAT exam syllabus. RC passage on any topic under the
Sun can be placed in XAT exam.
● Type of RC passages: Moderate and short.
● Type of Questions: All MCQ type.
Part-3: XAT Exam 2022 Syllabus for Logical Reasoning (LR)
● Share of LR questions in XAT syllabus is not very high. Usually, there are a few critical reasoning and a
few LR based questions in XAT exam. All questions are of MCQ type.
● Topics covered in XAT syllabus on which LR questions are based: Analogy, Clocks, calendars, Fact,
Inference, Judgement, binary logic, seating arrangement, blood relations, logical sequence, assumption,
premise, conclusion among others.
● XLRI entrance exam syllabus defines that questions on Logical Reasoning can be individual or can be in
the sets.
Section-2: Decision Making
Section Highlights: The XAT complete syllabus 2022 on Decision Making is unique in that neither the
CAT nor any other national level entrance test includes Decision Making as one of its exam sections.
Number of Questions: There are 21 questions in this section.

Section-3: Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
Section Highlights: The XAT full syllabus 2022 for Quant and DI part is quite extensive. The third and
final section of the redesigned XAT exam pattern is QA & DI. This component of the XAT is used to
calculate the XAT percentile. The XAT 2022 Quant syllabus is extensive and covers everything in
Mathematics that you may or may not expect.
Number of Questions: In the Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation portion of the XAT 2022, there
would be 28 MCQs.

Section-4: GK
Section Highlights: The syllabus for the second half of the XAT exam includes a section on General
Awareness (GK). The score in this section is not used to calculate the percentile in the XAT exam.
Questions can be based on both current and traditional GK. In-depth and consistent GK reading is more
beneficial, as a few GK questions in the XAT can be tough and require thorough study.
Number of Questions: According to the new XAT exam format, there will be 25 multiple-choice
questions in the XAT 2022 exam.

XAT Exam Pattern:
The XAT is a computer-based online test. The maximum possible score in the XAT exam is 100 for 100
questions divided into four sections. Each successful answer receives a +1 mark, while each incorrect
response receives a -0.25 point penalty. The XAT 2022 exam lasts three hours in total.
